How will I be assessed?

There are four, six or ten multiple choice self-assessment papers (one per module) throughout your programme and a Telecoms Academy assessed final examination.

The self-assessment papers do not count toward the final examination / qualification assessment, but offer you the opportunity to assess your progress. You will be expected to pass the final examination in order to gain your Certificate or Diploma.

Practice questions are included throughout the courseware to help with preparation for the assessments and examination.

The final examination will be programmed on a specific day, but if you unavoidably miss your examination, arrangements can be made to sit the next one (for a small administration fee).

The final exam will be in electronic form via a web interface, and will require local validation (e.g. training manager). You will be asked for suitable details on registration.

The actual final assessment is in modular format in line with the course modules taken. It is again made up of multiple-choice questions.

What happens if I fail a module?

If you fail up to 2 modules, you can re-sit those two module examinations not more than 3 months later (at the next or subsequent scheduled examination sitting times). If you fail 3 or more examination modules, you must retake the whole set of examinations again (not more than 3 months later).

Note: An administration fee of £40 is payable for a re-sit (whether this is two modules or the whole examination).

Who awards my Certificate or Diploma?

The Certificate or Diploma is awarded by Informa Telecoms & Media. Accreditation and Endorsement would not normally affect this.

ITM organize many conference and training events worldwide such as the Com World Series, the IPTV World Series, the WiMAX Forum Congress Series and the LTE World Series and publish titles including Mobile Communications International. As a company, we also provide a whole range of distance-learning courses across a spectrum of industries. Our central distance and e-learning organisation provide best-practice.

Is there an award ceremony?

Our participants are located in many different parts of the world, which means we are unlikely to get enough participants together to make a full award ceremony a worthwhile exercise. However, we do encourage company training departments to ensure the Certificate or Diploma is recorded in your training record, with an award ceremony conducted if required. This would usually depend on the number of participants taking the programme from the same company.

Is there a grievance procedure?

The award of the Certificate or Diploma is at the discretion of the Informa Telecoms Academy. The final examination is by multiple-choice, so we have tried to minimize the possible areas of contention. Please be aware that the assessment is normally via a web interface, and inevitably, technical problems will arise from time to time. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure they have access to a suitable computer and access to the internet at the specified time.

However, if you are not happy with any aspect of your support or the examination procedure, you can initially contact your Course Director who will review the circumstances and respond. If you are still not satisfied, you can write to the Telecoms Academy Training Director, again giving full details of your grievance. The Training Director will investigate, and respond accordingly. If you are still dissatisfied, you can appeal by writing directly to the group head of Distance Learning, who again will investigate, and whose decision is final.
