What are the Overall Objectives of the Telecoms Academy Distance Learning Programmes?

The detailed programme descriptions provide an excellent overview of the relevant programmes. In each case, though, the overall objective is as follows. By the end of the programme you should be able to:

  • Chart the evolution of mobile and/or fixed telecommunications, identifying the goals of the industry, potential migration paths, and limitations imposed by legacy systems, organisations and markets
  • Discuss with confidence how the customer proposition is changing, and is likely to evolve, including both marketing and product mix / support
  • Fully understand the fundamental limitations and characteristics of the underlying communication concepts
  • Identify and compare different technologies used in mobile and/or fixed telecommunications, citing their main advantages, features, limitations and potential usage
  • Categorize industry bodies, vendors, operators, and service providers by assessing their products or services. Categories could include technology sector, function, organisation type, and alliances
  • Follow technical documents, extracting all relevant information, and then assimilate that information in a coherent and logical assessment of the subject matter
  • State the function of different communication equipment, describing the technology and techniques used, as well as which network / service types it may support
  • Better analyse and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of telecommunication companies and organisations, including organization, and administration

Does a Diploma Programme follow on from Certificate Programme?

This would be an excellent overall programme of study, however we recognise that individual experience differs greatly, and for those with suitable qualifications or experience, the Diploma programme offers a chance to start at a more advanced stage.

Who is in charge of my programme?

Each programme has a Course Tutor assigned who is responsible for the smooth running of the programme, and ensures each participant makes the required progress. The Tutor is always a very experienced member of the Informa Telecoms Academy training staff.

Is my employer involved in my programme?

We encourage employers to get involved. Although not essential, employer involvement could bring many benefits, including designated study / revision periods.

We do, however, require a responsible manager to be nominated to invigilate the final assessment. He / she will be e-mailed full instructions nearer the time, but will essentially be asked to provide an authentication that the examination was actually taken by the participant, and that standard procedures were followed.

How is quality ensured?

Informa has been providing high quality Distance Learning Programmes for a wide variety of industry sectors for many years, including as part of the Lloyds Maritime Academy (courses accredited by London Metropolitan University), and Terrorism Studies in partnership with the University of St Andrews. We have a very good track record built up over many years and are confident that the Telecoms Academy programmes meet or exceed industry expectations.

All out programmes are rigorously specified, developed and checked by the Telecoms Academy training staff.

Any accreditation / endorsement put in place will include an element of quality assurance.
